State veteran benefits guide

Utah disabled veteran benefits: tax, plates, education, and recreation.

A source-visible guide to the Utah fields used in the VetOps State Benefits Report. Verify final eligibility with the state agency before relying on any benefit.

    Utah military retirement pay tax

Utah gives a military retirement tax credit — treated as exempt here.

    Utah disabled veteran license plate

Eligibility: ANY percentage of SC disability — no minimum threshold.

How to apply: Documentation from the UT Dept. of Veterans & Military Affairs, VA, or US Armed Forces. Apply at any DMV location, by mail, or online.

    Agency: DMV

    Registration, parking, and toll notes

One-time $15 plate fee, no renewal fees — but does NOT waive vehicle registration fees. Parking is not included — a separate placard is needed (Form TC-842).

No dedicated disabled-veteran toll program confirmed in Utah.

    Utah property tax benefits

For 2026, Utah applies a qualifying service-connected disability percentage to a maximum $535,459 taxable-value allowance (minimum 10%; VA-certified individual unemployability counts as 100%). This reduces taxable value, not the tax bill by $535,459. File through the county armed-forces exemption process. The September 1 deadline has passed; ask about a discretionary extension or a qualifying retroactive-decision exception.

    Utah education benefits

Utah offers a Purple Heart tuition waiver, a qualifying military-survivor undergraduate waiver and a final-year Veterans Tuition Gap program. There is no general state tuition waiver established here solely because a parent has a 100% service-connected rating; each program requires agency or school approval.

    Utah recreation benefits

Utah residents with 20%+ service-connected disability can apply for discounted wildlife licenses, not free licenses at 50%. The separate Honor Pass covers qualifying park day use, not camping; check the interim 2026 entry instructions and current fees before visiting.
