New Mexico property tax benefits
2026: A permanent service-connected disability may qualify for proportional relief on the continuously occupied principal home, after the standard veteran deduction ($10,000 base with annual inflation adjustment). A qualifying 100% disability can exempt that taxable value fully. This is not a cash award. Start with DVS certification, then file ownership/occupancy proof with the county assessor within 30 days of the valuation notice. The usual 2026 spring window has passed; do not assume late approval.
New Mexico education benefits
Vietnam and Wartime veteran scholarships require DVS certification and school coordination. Qualifying children of deceased service members have a separate application. Published school/degree rules differ, and the Wartime form's June deadline requires confirmation.
New Mexico recreation benefits
Qualifying New Mexico residents with 100% service-connected disability may receive a free lifetime small-game/fishing card; deer requires an annual license. Other qualifying resident disabled veterans can buy the $10 combination with required additions. The separate State Park Lifetime Veteran Pass has no disability minimum; reservation and special-facility charges remain.
