New Jersey disabled veteran license plate
Eligibility: 100% P&T SC disability (VA-recognized), NJ resident, registered vehicle owner.
How to apply: Form SP-47 + VA award letter, mail to NJ MVC Special Plate Unit, PO Box 015, Trenton NJ 08666-0015 (609-292-6500 ext 5061). Plate costs $15.

Registration, parking, and toll notes
Free registration if blind from war service or SC-disabled and qualified for a free VA automobile. Parking: municipal meter fee exemption up to 24 hrs with the MVC placard.
Real program: veterans exempt from vehicle registration fees get automatic toll waivers via E-ZPass on all three NJ toll roads — NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway. Get the Disabled Vet plate first, then register your E-ZPass transponder to it.
New Jersey property tax benefits
2026: Eligible resident homeowners with VA permanent-and-total service-connected disability, including qualifying IU, may receive a dwelling exemption. Combat service is not required. Proportional relief below 100% is still proposed, not enacted. A separate $250 deduction uses V.S.S.; the full exemption uses D.V.S.S.E. with the municipal assessor. File the full-exemption claim any time during the tax year; prior-tax refunds are discretionary.
New Jersey education benefits
Qualifying New Jersey National Guard members may receive up to 16 tuition-free credits per semester at public colleges after required aid coordination. Unit certification and school processing are required; fees are not automatically covered.
New Jersey recreation benefits
Eligible New Jersey resident veterans with honorable discharge and service-connected disability of any degree can receive free eligible state hunting/fishing licenses after Fish and Wildlife certification. Actual licenses and permits are still required. Park admission and Island Beach vehicle permits use separate proof; camping is not automatically free.
