C&P exam prep

Walk into your C&P exam knowing exactly how it's scored.

Pick your conditions below and see how the VA rates each one, what the examiner will do and ask, the language that captures your real severity, and the secondary conditions worth claiming. Free, and nothing you select leaves your browser.

⚔️ Universal rules — true for every condition

  • Describe your worst days. The VA rates the severity of your condition during flare-ups, not on a good day in the exam chair.
  • Stop at pain. During range-of-motion tests, stop when pain begins — that is the measurement that matters, not how far you can force it.
  • Connect symptoms to function. "I can't sit through a movie," "I miss work twice a month," "my spouse helps me dress" — functional impact drives the rating.
  • Never minimize. Military culture trains you to push through. That instinct costs veterans accurate ratings. Be truthful about the bad days.
  • This is educational. VetOps is not VA, a VSO, or a medical provider. Answer the examiner truthfully; this tool helps you prepare, not script.

⚠️ The symptom estimator shows the rating tied to the most severe symptom you check, based on the VA rating schedule. It is an educational estimate — the VA examiner and rating specialist make the actual determination from your medical evidence.

After the exam

Organize the rest of your claim.

Use the VA Claims lane for evidence checklists and appeal readiness, or the Rating Calculator to combine your ratings. VetOps is not VA, a VSO, or a government agency. No guaranteed outcomes.
