What BDD is
Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) lets eligible service members file a VA disability claim before leaving service. Start with the separation date on your orders, list the conditions you want VA to review, and check the required records.
Check your filing window
The BDD filing window is 180 to 90 days before separation. Check your planned date and whether you can meet the program requirements before choosing this option. Keep a copy of the application and proof that VA received it.
What to organize
Gather service treatment records and the separation health assessment required by VA. For each claimed condition, list current symptoms and where you were treated. Include relevant private records, deployment records, and personnel records. Confirm your availability for required exams.
